| 15/11/2010 15:52:55 Has anyone found a good study day for HCA's and Technicians working in Endoscopy. Other than an NVQ course is there anything out there specifically aimed at non registered staff? I heard on the grape vine that Graham Stanton in Wales was looking into something in the past, may be somewhere to start. | |||||
| 24/11/2010 11:16:05 Has anyone found a good study day for HCA's and Technicians working in Endoscopy. Other than an NVQ course is there anything out there specifically aimed at non registered staff? We send our HCA's on study day like the Pentax study days and the Lancer study days. Lancer does a 3 day manager's course, I have been on the course and I think that for our HCA's who are working in the decontamination all the time then it would be a very useful. they do an assessment on the last day of the course. Hope it helps Indira | |||||
| 02/12/2010 15:57:25 Indira has mentioned about the various courses there are for decontamination. Its also worth considering developing your HCA's via some of the University Programmes around a Foundation course in Endoscopic Practice. These have been successfully undertaken by HCA's in the South West ( Torbay) and North East ( James Cook, Middlesborough)There has been funding for these development roles. Teeside University will be able to let you know if they still run the modules, and contact Torbay Endoscopy/ Exeter University re the South West modules. These both use the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework for Endoscopy. The GIN programme is to continue into its third year from April 2011 ( www.jets.nhs.uk) and the days are open to HCA's. Keep an eye on the BSG newsletter or website, as it has a number of excellent clinical study days eg TECNA which address a theme of endoscopic practice. If you use, or are considering using Boston Scientific equipment, they do an excellent professional development programme around haemostasis ( and soon to arrive dilatation) which they will deliver in your unit to all staff. Contact your local rep or Boston Scientific directly (www.bostonscientific.co.uk) BW Rachael | |||||
| 06/07/2011 09:53:14 Dear Sarah have you tried he following link to Decontmaiantion of Medical Devices: endoscopy http://www.anglia.ac.uk This module is designed to educate all levels of staff employed within the decontamination department from technicians to decontamination leads and unit managers. This initial online module aims to educate and inform evidence-based practice that encompasses the roles within this specific area of endoscope decontaminationation. This module is designed for healthcare practitioners who prefer a practice based approach to life long learning in order to explore and apply the principles of medical device decontamination. Student learning will be facilitated by the university via a distance learning approach, and supported within their workplace to acquire the appropriate evidence based knowledge and skills required to understand the process of medical device decontamination. An inquiry based learning (IBL) approach will be utilised and supported throughout the delivery and students will be expected to integrate theory and practice. The flexible & distributive learning component of the delivery is supported by materials which have been authored in-house and will be supported by virtual learning environment (VLE). It is anticipated that this method of learning facilitates the development of transferable life long learning skills. The module will cover preparation of yourself, and the environment, the endoscope decontamination process, transportation (packing), storage and traceability of medical devices. In addition, it will explore both local and national policies and regulations regarding Health and Safety, COSHH and RIDDOR in the workplace. hope this helps Angela cobbold |
